The Aoshima Pacific Inter Marathon (Dec 11 2011)

Cut off 6hrs30mins

Enter this one quickly as it is Kyuushuus’ most popular marathon. Commanding views of Aoshima and the magnificent Pacific Ocean. Aoshima’s natural hot springs are effective for beautiful skin and the relief of muscle and joint pain. Beginners should also be relieved as there are various groups and many extentions to time limitations. There are local foods such as charcoaled fired grilled chicken, “chicken namban,” cold juices and the like. I have done this marathon and was not only impressed by the course and organization but by the people, food and accommodation which are amongst the best in Japan.

Cut off 6 hours

Kishukuchikumano has a full and half marathon races. If you want a taste of a real local marathon, this is it. The location is the beautiful seaside town of Shirahama. I've run the half here as the sole foreigner. I was cheered on by the locals along a scenic course. It's a wonderful course mostly flat, through tunnels and small villages on one side and lush mountains on the other, 15 mins from the sea.

After the race you can soak in hot springs, drink local beer and feast on the local seafood. As close to paradise as a runner can get.

The 1st Kobe Marathon (Nov 20, 2011)

Marathon

Cut off 7 hours

The Kobe marathon will host around 20,000 runners to this, the most  well known "international city" in Japan. The reason for its inception is to help rebuild the city's international image after the destruction of the  "Great Hashin Earthquake."  Remembance and charity will be its main theme.

Kobe is the capital city of  beautiful Hyogo Prefecture. I can tell you from experience that no other prefecture I've run in puts on better marathons. The place where the ASICS company was born and still resides certainly takes its running seriously.
